A bank transfer may be difficult to reverse, so treat the point before payment as your last clear chance to resolve basic questions. These checks do not guarantee a safe transaction, but they reveal gaps you can address or use as a reason to stop.
Ten checks before sending funds
1. Confirm the seller's identity and business details. 2. Ask who owns the watch. 3. See current images of the actual piece. 4. Verify its serial safely. 5. Match the serial across documents. 6. Run a dated theft-status search and read its scope. 7. Arrange independent authentication and condition review. 8. Get the price, condition, delivery, and return terms in writing. 9. Confirm the account name and payment instructions independently. 10. Keep the complete listing and message history.
Resolve discrepancies before the transfer
A missing warranty card may be explainable; a seller refusing to let you inspect the serial is a different problem. Ask direct questions and record the answers. Do not rely on verbal promises that contradict the written terms.
Choose a payment path you understand
Review your bank's protections and the platform's rules before payment. Never accept new account details by an unverified message. If the seller creates urgency or changes the payee, pause and confirm independently.
If an important check cannot be completed, delay payment or walk away. The cost of losing a transaction is lower than sending money without a clear record of what was agreed.
Start with the Serial
Make the individual watch identifiable before you decide how to pay.
