An online listing can make a watch look fully documented while leaving basic questions unanswered. Before checkout, establish which physical watch is for sale, who is selling it, and what happens if the delivered item differs from the listing.
Ask for the serial on the actual watch
Request a clear photo of the serial and compare it with the number on the warranty card or service records. Search that serial for existing theft reports. A result based on a typed number alone may not belong to the watch in the listing.
Read the transaction terms
Check the seller's identity and history, the return window, who pays for insured shipping, and how the platform handles a watch that fails inspection. Keep the full listing and message thread. Don't move payment off-platform if that removes protections you planned to use.
Plan for delivery
Save the tracking number and photograph the package before opening if the carrier or seller asks for condition evidence. When the watch arrives, compare its serial and condition with the listing before confirming receipt. A prior clean search does not establish that the delivered watch is the same piece.
If the serial is withheld, return terms are unclear, or the seller demands a rushed transfer, postpone checkout. You can always ask another seller for the information needed to verify a specific watch.
