For a used IWC, a model name such as Portugieser or Pilot's Watch describes a family. The serial belongs to the individual piece and is the identifier to use when checking for an existing stolen-watch report.
Build the number into the inspection
Ask where the serial appears on that model and compare it with the card, invoice, or service records. If it is difficult to read or reach, arrange a watchmaker's inspection. Don't open the watch just to complete a search.
Run the search close to purchase
Search the confirmed number and save the date and result. If a match appears, pause and contact the service. If no match appears, the result covers only the records searched at that time.
Check condition and authenticity separately
The database doesn't assess the IWC's movement, service needs, or authenticity. Arrange a specialist inspection if you need those answers, and get an invoice that identifies the serial and seller.

Compare the serial on the watch with the dated result and sale invoice.
