A record can be wrong or refer to a different watch with a similar identifier. Don't dismiss it, and don't assume it is accurate without checking. Compare the exact serial and follow the service's process for a correction or review.
Check for a number-reading error
Read the engraving again under good light. Look for characters that are easy to confuse and check whether you searched a case number, movement number, or reference. If you cannot read the serial confidently, ask a watchmaker to inspect it.
Prepare a clear request
Save the search result and note when you ran it. Gather documents that identify your specific watch, such as a dated invoice or service receipt, plus clear photos of the engraving. Send only what the service requests, through its official support channel; don't post personal documents in public comments.
Keep the original record and the correction
Write down the date you contacted the service and any case number it gives you. If the service updates a record, ask for written confirmation and save it with the earlier result. If the issue affects a purchase or an insurance claim, tell the relevant party that a correction is pending.
A disputed result is not the same as a cleared record. Wait for the provider's confirmation and seek advice from the appropriate authority if the matter involves a possible theft.
Ask the Record Provider to Review It
Use the service's official channel and send evidence that identifies your exact watch.
