A watch bought as a gift still needs the same identification checks as any other purchase. The person receiving it may not know where it came from, what the seller promised, or which serial was searched unless you keep a simple record.
Check before wrapping it
Compare the serial on the watch with the documents and run a stolen-status search before payment. If you are buying online, make sure the serial belongs to the item that will be shipped. Arrange an independent inspection if authenticity or condition matters.
Keep a gift file
Save the invoice, dated search result, seller messages, and a clear serial photo. Give the recipient copies of the ownership records and explain where the originals are stored. Avoid posting the full serial in a public birthday photo.
If the recipient later has a question
The documents help show what you bought and when; they do not establish authenticity or guarantee future database status. If a report appears later, the recipient can use the saved records to contact the seller, provider, insurer, or relevant authority.
